Monday Folders: Monday folders will be sent home each Monday. This folder will contain all of your child’s papers from the week before as well as correspondence from the school/school division, and our third grade newsletter. Please check your child’s folder, sign the attached paper, and return it on Tuesday.
Homework Folder and Agenda: Students will write any homework in their agenda. Homework needs to be completed the day it is assigned, as it is a very important practice of skills being taught in class. Homework will vary according to each teacher. Please check agendas daily to see the required homework. Look for study guides and test dates. I ask that you sign the agenda nightly so you are aware of any homework and any comments/concerns that I want to share with you. I also encourage you to use the agenda for a communication tool. Students should place their homework assignments in their “homework” folder to take to and from school. If homework is not returned, students will have an opportunity to complete it during study hall which is during recess.
Testing/ Grades: Third grade is the students’ first year of SOL testing. This occurs in May. This is the students’ opportunity to show all they have learned from grades K-3. It is very important that each student, parent and teacher take this seriously. We all want your child to succeed. Together we can make it happen. In third grade, students receive letter grades. Please see Amherst Elementary’s office staff to sign up for Powerschool Parent- an opportunity for you to view your child’s grades online. The grading scale is as follows:
